The General Medical 5A/B unit is a 45-bed unit consisting of general medical patients with a mix of Cardio IMCU and Med-Surg overflow.  The unit is supported by a team consisting of the Unit Secretary, Patient Care Unit Coordinators, Patient Care Technicians, Transporters, Nutrition Ambassadors, RN’s, LVN’s, RN Shift Supervisor, a Clinical Educator, a Manager and the Director working as a cohesive team to ensure excellent patient care.

Job Summary:
The Patient Care Unit Coordinator will float between patient care technician and unit secretary duties; generally a 50/50 split.  The Patient Care Tech duties are assisting with patient care under the direction of the licensed staff along with patient comfort, restroom assistance, hygiene/ADL’s to include bed baths and linen changes, mobility and transport, patient safety, prompt response to patient request and answering call lights, and taking vital signs.  Patient coverage assignments are 10-15 patients per Patient Care Unit Coordinator based on unit census with some 1:1 patient coverage assignments as needed.  Unit Secretary duties are responding to all inquires at the nurse’s station, processing orders, keeping charts current, ordering and stocking supplies, answering phones and call lights and assisting the licensed nursing staff as needed.

Licenses and Certifications:

Minimum 18-yrs of age

CPR certified from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross


Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Previous hospital based CNA, Patient Care Tech, Unit Secretary and/or Medical Assistant experience desired

Acute care setting of patient drains, tubes, and specimen collection

Acute care setting of infection control protocols

Vital signs; manual blood pressure, heights/weights, O2 stats, I& O calculations, Glucose monitoring
Ability to recognize important patient observations and communicate it to the appropriate team member
Ability to manipulate, position, transfer and ambulate various size patients both full assist or partial assist

Basic addition and subtraction skills required

Computer skills required; accurate 40+ wpm minimum; EMR EPIC documentation

Medical Terminology a plus

Prioritize multiple requests

Multi-task with ability to handle multiple interruptions

Effective and efficient written and verbal communication skills

Excellent front-line customer service skills

Status:  Full-time 3 shifts per week required
Shift:  3rd Nights
Hours:  7:00 P.M. to 7:00 A.M.
Days:  Schedule days are primarily Monday - Thursday with some weekends and holiday rotation required based on unit need
Work Schedule:  12.0 hours
