Oncology Nurse Navigator HCC FT Days

  Job Summary: 
The nurse navigator is a registered nurse that serves as a consistent care coordinator throughout the continuum of care assessing the physical, psychological, and social needs of the patient. The nurse navigator instructs patients regarding diagnostic procedures to be done on-site or in the hospital, guides the patient through the diagnostic and treatment phases related to the malignant diagnosis, transitions the patient for follow-up care including chemotherapy and radiation therapy within effective and realistic time frames while reinforcing physician instruction. The nurse navigator facilitates the patient access to healthcare and community resources, including patient education materials and financial and psychological counseling, participates in community and professional education and attends the Case Conferences.

  Education/Licenses/Certifications: 
RN currently licensed in the state of Texas.
BSN preferred
Oncology certification preferred
CPR certified from American Heart Association or American Red Cross
 
 
  Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 
Four years’ experience in Oncology nursing, nursing management, or health education with two or more years in a supervisory capacity preferred
Ongoing development of nursing skills in general cancer care
Oncology experience preferred 
Computer experience in Word and Excel

Communicates well, and exhibits:

  Ability to read and understand the English language

Possesses keyboard data entry skills and working knowledge of computers and basic office equipment
Has strong grasp of medical terminology
Works well in a fast-paced environment and adapt to rapidly changing situations
Is well versed in HIPAA laws and keep patient documentation and information confidential
Can multi-task constantly and tolerate interruptions
Works as part of a cohesive medical team to care for patients and deliver exceptional customer service
