Medical Assistant in Amarillo, TX

Shift: 1st - Day
Hours: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Schedule: Full Time

Harrington Cancer Center is a department within the BSA Health System and has provided care for oncology patients throughout the Texas Panhandle for 35 years. We provide a unique, team approach to provide consultation, evaluation, diagnosis, and comprehensive treatment for patients of all ages.

Job Summary:
As a medical assistant, you will work as a member of a care team to provide care and support to patients under the direction of a physician or mid-level provider.

Education/Licenses/Certifications:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate
Certified Medical Assistant Required

Qualifications/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Greeting and preparing patients for their visit with the provider by obtaining and recording their vital signs and other information such as height, weight, drug allergies, current medications, medication reconciliation and presenting problem and starting the in-room process.
  • Assisting with diagnostic tests and clinical procedures such as venous and capillary invasive procedures for blood draws, intradermal (including skin tests), subcutaneous and intramuscular injections.
  • Performing medication reconciliation and medical/surgical history of the patient.
  • Administering medications and vaccinations.
  • Managing patient flow, ensuring enough time for patient and family education.
  • Preparing and sterilizing instruments and maintaining equipment and patient care areas clean and orderly.
  • Ordering supplies necessary for running the clinic including but not limited to blood draw supplies, equipment for bone marrow biopsies and lumbar puncture kits.
  • Scheduling patient appointments and other administrative duties as needed to include but not limited to pre-authorization of certain procedures when need be. Also assisting patients with the beginning of “MyChart”.
  • Actively participating in continuing education, required meetings and committees as requested.
